Replacement of DDC Controls
The client was faced with an issue of upgrading their current building controls software for a large cost. The current hardware was showing failures, wires were constantly being replaced, and the system was complicated to operate. Their building consists of over 15 Roof-top Units and 45 Variable Air Volume units with electrcic re-heat. Traditional controls tends to be complicated, expensive to maintain, and requires intensive training. In Church settings, this leaves the owner completely reliant of specialized controls companies in order to keep their building comfortable. The church opted to have the traditional controls replaced for more modern and simplified Pelican Wireless Systems.

The Challenge
The challenge with a project this size is always cost and downtime. Typical replacement costs can far exceed most customers budget, but in this case we were able to provide reasonable pricing for what they were expecting to pay for a software upgrade. The second problem of downtime is also a consideration in these cases. Typical hardware replacement of traditional controls can take 3-6 months to get completely programmed and back under the owner control.
The Solution
With Pelican Wireless, we were able to complete the install under cost with all new hardware. The project's was able to be completed in 5 working days for over 60 individual system controls. In comparrison this would take a normal DDC control 2-3 months to accomplish. The owner was able to take control day 1 of finished work with constant support and visibility from Stiles Services.
The Benefits
With the new controls installed, the customer is able to save on scheduled run time with quicker access to adjustments from on campus or off. A much more secure access remotely that is approved through their IT department. With the new scheduling capability, they have begun to manage energy costs on a day to day basis rather than accept building costs of their size. This has led to complete update of the controls in all exterior buildings to have one complete system.
